Overview

Tyson Jay partnered with a multi-concept restaurant group in Singapore on a time-sensitive hiring project across three outlets, including recruitment for new outlet openings.

Over four months, 21 permanent placements were secured across eight role types, covering kitchen, bar, guest-facing service, and supervisory and management positions.

How results are measured: Placements are counted based on the month in which candidates accepted their employment offers.
Roles filled: Sous Chef, Chef de Partie, Assistant Restaurant Manager, F&B Supervisor, Guest Relations, Service Crew, Barista and Bartender.

The hiring challenge

Several roles needed to be filled concurrently across the three outlets, with new outlet opening timelines approaching and different hiring managers involved in the selection process. This meant recruitment had to move quickly while still allowing each hiring manager to assess candidates against the needs of their respective teams.

Beyond relevant experience, the client looked for candidates who communicated well, demonstrated strong hospitality standards and were comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, including split-shift arrangements.

The hiring process involved multiple decision-makers, including General Managers and Head Chefs, adding another layer of coordination when arranging interviews.

How Tyson Jay supported the hiring

Tyson Jay combined active candidate sourcing with job advertising, screening candidates for relevant experience, communication and suitability for the working arrangements before introducing them to the client.

Throughout the process, Tyson Jay maintained communication with candidates, helping to keep expectations aligned as the hiring progressed.

At the start of the engagement, the recruitment process followed a traditional sequence: Tyson Jay submitted suitable candidates, the client reviewed each profile, confirmed who they wanted to meet, and interview timings were then coordinated.

A faster process built on trust

After several positive interview experiences, the partnership evolved.

The client became confident in Tyson Jay’s understanding of the roles and the quality of the candidates introduced. Tyson Jay was trusted to screen suitable candidates and schedule them directly into agreed interview slots with the relevant hiring managers, without waiting for every CV to be reviewed.

This helped candidates move from screening to interview more quickly, while reducing the coordination required from the client. Hiring managers could therefore focus their time on candidates who had already been assessed for relevant experience, communication and suitability for the role.

What this case study shows

This project shows how a recruitment partner can support an internal HR team when several roles need to be filled at the same time, particularly when hiring timelines are tight.

For restaurant or café groups opening new outlets or expanding existing concepts, Tyson Jay supports hospitality and F&B recruitment across operations and management positions.
